Spring is here and the cherry blossoms in Washington D.C. are the most beautiful welcome of the season! The cherry trees of Washington DC was a gift from Japan in 1912 as a sign of friendship and alliance with the United States. We call the event National Cherry Blossoms Festival and now we commemorate this lovely tree blossoms every year with a finale of a Cherry Blossoms Parade. You don’t have to worry if you are coming from another state or driving a long way and did not pack some lunch. They have all sorts of food trucks in the area and all sorts of refreshments with some live music. There is First Aid as well and lots of police to make sure the area is safe. You have all that you need here if you are planning to come within this week. This week’s weather forecast seems to be cooperating well with everyone’s plans; with 74 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday, 83 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday, and 81-82 degrees Fahrenheit on Saturday—just in time for the 2018 Cherry Blossoms Parade !
Today, I have some photos to share with all of you which includes my baby bump and my husband. We were there for two days in a row and it was worth all the traffic for me because I wasn’t driving. My husband wouldn’t probably agree with me but once we got out of the car he was the one taking his time to take photos for my blog. I wish that I could upload all the photos in full resolution but each photo is about 20 megabytes so I had to compress it to the lowest size I could so I can show you all how the Spring here in our area looks like. So many people came on Friday but it was more fun on Saturday because the sun came out. Sunday was, however, the best because it was not only sunny, although the place was packed, it was not as traffic as during the Cherry Blossoms Parade. The story changes once you got out of the car, especially in the Tidal Basin area, you won’t regret coming to see these beautiful trees. We parked by SW Ohio Drive and it was packed! But don’t be put off by this, it happens quite a lot in D.C. and I have to note that the traffic enforcers were quite merciful last Sunday.
This was in SW Ohio Drive where you can park and walk to the Tidal Basin
This is the new Wharf District. They built the place so fast. Lots of food to choose from!
By the Tidal Basin where all the activities happen
Looking at the Obelisk from the Tidal Basin
This is the “pinkest” cherry blossoms around. I wanted a photo with my bump.
Ohio Drive – getting closer to the Tidal Basin
My one and only love.
The blossoms looked like a roof over my head. Just BEAUTIFUL!
A Weeping Japanese Cherry that I was mesmerized with while walking towards the Tidal Basin
It’s obviously packed!
Am I in heaven? Everything is white!
Thomas Jefferson Memorial with a cherry tree hanging by the side. What a capture!
The long stretch of cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin
Traffic is absolutely everywhere but people are persistent
One of the oldest Yoshino cherries around. One woman said to me: “I love old trees, they’re like people”
For those who want some music, they have live bands even on a cold Spring day
You should see this in full resolution. If only it was easy to upload it. It’s magnificent!
Busy DC but still charming
It’s definitely a family day
I have a photo bomber ;D
Going back to the car so tired from the traffic more than the walk
People around us are as in love as we are.
Try to stop by if you have any plans of coming to the area this week before the blossoms are gone. Saturday is a good day to come for the 2018 Cherry Blossoms Parade and the weather seems to be cooperating. I wish you the best on your journey and have a safe travel!
